New Evidence Supports The Thesis That Coronavirus Is Spread By Air

The US National Academy of Sciences has made a new addition to the thesis that the new type of coronavirus can be spread through the air, and not just through droplets released during sneezing or coughing.

Although the research is not complete, the results of the study suggest aerosolization of respiration, wrote Harvey Fineberg, leader of the Permanent Board of Infectious Diseases and Health Risks of the 21st Century, in a letter to the White House.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other health agencies have so far insisted that the primary mode of transmission of severe SARS-COV-2 acute respiratory syndrome is through larger respiratory droplets, which people expel by coughing and sneezing.

The action of these drops is from one to two meters, and the virus can be kept on the surfaces, from where people can collect it by touching the mouth, nose or eyes.

However, if COVID-19 is in the human breath, protection becomes more difficult, confirming the correctness of the recommendations that all people should wear masks in public to reduce the unconscious transmission of the virus from person to person with an asymptomatic form of infection. , writes the American “Sciencemag”.

Debate over how to pass on this method began earlier this year, with Fineberg and his colleagues pointing to other research, such as a recent study by Joshua Santarpia and colleagues at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, which provided evidence of a virus. RNA in the isolation rooms of patients treated with COVID-19.

Viral RNA has been detected in hard-to-reach areas, as well as in samples at a height of up to two meters from patients.

The presence of RNA indicates that the virus can be spread through aerosols, concluded Santarpia and his team, although they did not find infectious viral particles.
